Global Institute for the Future of Energy

Shaping the future of global energy.

The future of global energy needs better-informed leaders and citizens.

Decisions about energy are some of the most consequential we must make as human beings. Despite this, the general public, as well as many leaders in policy, nonprofit and other sectors, remain critically undereducated. Too often, energy education is siloed rather than interconnected.

The Global Institute for the Future of Energy at ASU – a collaborative initiative of the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory and the Thunderbird School of Global Management – is transdisciplinary by design, global in reach and learner-centered at its core.

The institute will welcome current and future leaders from the private and public sectors, building on existing strengths and ecosystems. It will disrupt traditional academic approaches to addressing energy by putting pragmatic discourse, made accessible for a mass global audience, at the heart of its work.

Our opportunity

Across the globe, energy security, economic security and environmental security are inseparable and directly connected to human flourishing.

Our goal is to serve as the vanguard for energy education, workforce capacity and innovation, helping communities and organizations understand energy and provide options for navigating the human and environmental complexity of energy issues. We will advance global energy education and explore robust solutions for our future global energy systems.

Our impact

Energy is the foundation of everything we do. My vision for this institute is to help develop a deeper understanding of energy among future generations of leaders and decisionmakers — where it comes from, why it matters and how to use it wisely. ASU is thinking globally, beyond the boundaries of Arizona and the U.S., and preparing people for what’s next. That’s the kind of partner I wanted.
